Unboxing the Google Nexus 5X

In this video I unbox my new Google LG Nexus 5X smartphone. I bought this unlocked Nexus 5X for $349. I also picked up the Adopted case for $19.99. This is an unlocked smartphone and supported the four major wireless networks including AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and TMobile. This phone should also be eligible for use on those same networks from prepaid wireless companies Straight Talk, Net 10, Tracfone, Google Project Fi and others.

After opening the box we find:

  • The Nexus 5X
  • AC wall adapter
  • USB Charge and Sync Cable
  • A complementary 90 day Google Play subscription
  • SIM ejection tool
  • Instruction Booklet

While i didn’t note it in the video, the USB connector on the phone and cable is the new USB Type C. After unwrapping the phone, I noticed what looked like a scrape on the back, I’ll have to take a closer look at that later.

After unboxing the phone, I started it up and walked through the set up screens but skipped each step choosing not to enter my information on camera. Starting from the Welcome screen the steps were:

  • Insert SIM
  • Connect To Wireless Network
  • Setup Time and Date
  • Enter Your Name
  • Setup Fingerprint Reader and Passcode
  • Accept Terms and Opt in to Google Services

After the phone started I went into the settings to check the software version. The phone is using Android 6.0 Marshmallow with a patch level of November 1 2015. I’ll need to update the phone.

Finally, I opened the Adopted Protective Case for Nexus 5X. I chose the carbon colored case. It seems like a nice case, I chose it because it was $20 and wanted to have a case when I got the phone. I have read positive comments about Adopted cases. It looks like a pretty standard TPU plastic case. I may have more to say about it.
